Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell lives out its trial & litigation firm description. For one, our more than 110 lawyers see more than 30 trial verdicts, arbitration awards, and appellate opinions on an annual basis. We lead these high-stakes cases throughout the nation for well-known companies, including Whirlpool, Toyota, General Electric, Vail Resorts, Michelin, and more.

WTO offers associates advantages that are hard to find at larger firms: stand-up experience, direct client engagement, and significant responsibility and autonomy. As national workplace directory Vault put it while naming the firm a “Best Midsize Law Firm to Work For,” WTO associates “feel valued and enjoy being able to tackle substantive work from the start in the firm’s collegial, social environment.”

Lawyers seeking important litigation work for sophisticated clients thrive at WTO. As a bonus, our lawyers have the opportunity to live at the gateway to the Rocky Mountains while representing clients nationwide.

Our Voices

Professional Development

At Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell, we consider our associates to be our future partners, and we treat them as such. In fact, 65% of the firm’s partners are homegrown—they were promoted directly from our associate and of counsel ranks. Our firm helps develop associates into top litigators and future leaders through formal and informal mentorship, peer relationships, and ongoing training.

Resources include:

  • Dedicated trial consultants through the firm’s partnership with Courtroom Performance, Inc. to help lawyers hone their courtroom skills.
  • A Director of Attorney Development who coaches and mentors associates in areas ranging from client service to leadership as they grow their careers.
  • Training and CLEs throughout the year as well as a New Associate Academy. Topics cover trial lessons learned, legal writing, oral advocacy, trial and deposition skills, wellness, and more.
  • A generous stipend for other CLEs, national conferences, and professional organizations.
  • A separate stipend to attend the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s multi-day deposition practicum and week-long trial skills program.
  • Payment of local and national professional membership association fees.
